Learn to configure and download Raw access logs in cPanel

The article describes how you can configure and download your website’s raw access log files in cPanel.

What are Raw Access Logs?

You may setup and download your website’s raw log files for your own study using cPanel’s raw access log capability.
The Raw access logs provide information about every visitor to your website and FTP site. You may archive this data in a compressed file in your home directory once a month by setting cPanel. Additionally, you may set up cPanel to remove the stored log files from the preceding month. You may see the archived log file in any text editor after downloading and decompressing it to your computer.

Note: Archived access logs are stored in the gzip file format and these files have a .gz file extension. If your computer works on Microsoft Windows, then you may need to download a program that can decompress .gz files.

# Steps to configure Raw Access Logs

Perform the following steps to configure raw access logs in cPanel :

1. Log in to cPanel.

2. Perform one of the following :

• In case you are using the Paper Lantern cPanel theme, then on the cPanel home screen go to the METRICS section and click Raw Access.

• In case you are using the x3 cPanel theme, then on the cPanel home screen go to the Logs section and click on Raw Access Logs.

3. Also, if you want to archive logs at the end of each month, select the Archive logs in your home directory at the end of each month checkbox.

4. Now, you can select the Remove the previous month’s archived logs from your home directory at the end of each month checkbox, to delete the archived logs for the previous month.

5. Click on Save.

# Steps to download Raw Access Logs

Perform the following steps to download the raw access logs from cPanel :

1. Log in to cPanel.

2. Perform one of the following :

• In case you are using the Paper Lantern cPanel theme, then on the cPanel home screen go to the METRICS section and click on Raw Access.

• In case you are using the x3 cPanel theme, then on the cPanel home screen go to the Logs section and click on Raw Access Logs.

3. Now click on the filename of the file that you want to download.
