What is ionCube?

Some PHP programs are sold in a locked form. The code is scrambled so that nobody can copy it. ionCube is the tool that scrambles it. To run such a program, your server needs a helper called the ionCube Loader. The loader unlocks the code while the page loads.

LiteSpeed is a web server program. It is the software that sends your web pages to visitors.

What the error looks like

You may see a message like "The file was encoded and requires the ionCube Loader" or "ionCube Loader is not installed". Sometimes you only see a blank page or a 500 error.

Why it happens

  • The loader is switched off for your PHP version.
  • You changed PHP versions and the new one has no loader.
  • The encoded files were made for a different PHP version.
  • The server has not refreshed after a change.

Steps to fix it in cPanel

  1. Log in to your cPanel. The link is in your welcome email.
  2. Open Select PHP Version. If you do not see it, look for MultiPHP Manager.
  3. Check which PHP version your site uses.

  4. Open the Extensions tab.
  5. Find ioncube_loader or a similar name. Tick the box to turn it on.
  6. Save the changes.
  7. Reload your website. Press Ctrl and F5 together to skip the saved copy.

If it still fails

  1. Check what PHP version the software supports. Look in its manual or ask its maker.
  2. Change your site to that PHP version. Use the same PHP tool in cPanel.
  3. Clear the cache of your site. A cache is a saved copy of a page that makes it load faster.
  4. Open a support ticket with Hostvento at https://secure.hostvento.com/submitticket.php. Tell them the exact error text and your PHP version.
Tip: Copy the full error message before you contact support. It helps them find the problem fast.

Quick recap

  • ionCube unlocks protected PHP code.
  • The error means the loader is missing or off.
  • Turn on ioncube_loader in the PHP extensions list.
  • Make sure the PHP version matches your software.
  • Open a support ticket if the error stays.
