What does the message mean?
When you log in, you give a username and a password. The system compares them with what it has saved. If they do not match, it shows this message. It does not say which one is wrong. That keeps your account safer from bad guys.
You may see it in several places. Examples are the client area, cPanel, webmail, an email program, or an FTP tool. FTP is a way to send files to your server.
Quick checks
- Look at Caps Lock. Passwords care about capital letters.
- Type slowly. Check for extra spaces at the start or end.
- Show the password if the box has an eye icon. Make sure you typed what you meant.
- Check the username. Many accounts use a full email address, like name@yourdomain.com. Others use a short name.
- Make sure you are on the right login page. A cPanel login will not work on the client area.
- Try another browser or a private window. This rules out saved wrong passwords.
Reset the password
For the Hostvento client area:
- Go to https://secure.hostvento.com/clientarea.php.
- Click the link for a forgotten password.
- Type your account email and submit.
- Open the email you get and follow its link.
- Choose a new, strong password.
For cPanel or an email account, look for a password reset option on the login page. Or change it from inside the client area, if you can still log in there.
Email program problems
If Outlook or a phone mail app shows this message, the saved password is probably old. Open the account settings and type the current password. Also check that the username is the full email address.
Still locked out?
Too many wrong tries can block you for a short time. Wait for about half an hour and try again. If it still fails, open a ticket at https://secure.hostvento.com/submitticket.php. Say which login fails and when it began. Never send your password in a ticket.
Quick recap
- The username or password does not match.
- Check Caps Lock, spaces and the exact username.
- Make sure you use the right login page.
- Reset the password if needed.
- Open a support ticket if it still fails.
