What is reseller hosting?
Reseller hosting lets you host websites for other people. You get one main account with space for many smaller cPanel accounts. cPanel is the control panel, a web page where each account manages its files, email and databases. WHM is the admin side where you manage all the smaller accounts.
How a move works
Moving means copying every account from the old host to the new one. cPanel can pack each account into one backup file. That file holds website files, databases, email and settings. The new host restores it.
Hostvento support can tell you whether they will run the move for you, and what they need. Do not assume. Ask first.
Step 1: Make a list
- Log in to WHM at your old host.
- Write down every account name and its domains.
- Note any special settings, such as custom PHP versions, cron jobs (tasks that run on a timer) and email forwarders.
Step 2: Take full backups
- In WHM, open Backup and look for Backup Wizard or the account backup tool.
- Create a full backup of each account.
- Download them to your computer, or keep them in a safe place.
Do this before anything else. Keep these files until your sites run well on the new host.
Step 3: Contact Hostvento
- Log in to the client area at https://secure.hostvento.com/clientarea.php.
- Open the Support menu and choose to open a ticket, or go to https://secure.hostvento.com/submitticket.php.
- Say that you want to move a cPanel reseller account.
- Share your account list. Ask how you can send the backups or the old server details.
Never write your passwords in a normal message unless support tells you which safe way to send them.
Step 4: Test before you switch
- When the accounts are restored, check each site. Ask support how to preview a site before the DNS switch.
- Test forms, logins and email.
Step 5: Change the DNS
DNS is the internet phone book for your domain. To send visitors to the new host, update the nameservers at your domain registrar. Hostvento will give you the correct values. Changes can take several hours to spread.
Quick recap
- List your accounts and take full backups first.
- Ask Hostvento support how the move will be done.
- Test sites on the new host before changing DNS.
- Keep the old account until everything works.
