What is cPanel?
A control panel is a web page with buttons for managing your hosting. It is like the dashboard of a car. You do not need to know how the engine works. You just use the pedals. cPanel is a control panel that runs on Linux servers. "cPanel hosting" means a hosting plan that comes with it. Ask Hostvento support if your plan includes cPanel.
What can you do in cPanel?
- Files: upload, edit and delete website files with File Manager.
- Email: make mailboxes like
name@yourdomain.comin Email Accounts. - Databases: create MySQL databases in MySQL Databases. A database is an organised store of information.
- Domains: add extra domains and subdomains.
- Security: manage SSL certificates, which are digital locks for your site.
- Backups: make a saved copy of your site.
- Software: install apps such as WordPress, often through an installer tool.
- Metrics: see visitors and resource use.
How to open cPanel
- Log in to the client area.
- Open Services and click your hosting service.
- Look for a button to log in to cPanel and click it.
Your welcome email may also give a direct cPanel link and login details. The button names may differ slightly. Ask support if you cannot find them.
Try one task: add an email account
- In cPanel, click Email Accounts.
- Click Create.
- Type the name for the mailbox.
- Set a strong password.
- Click Create.
