What is Supabase and why run it on a VPS?
Supabase gives an application a PostgreSQL database, authentication, file storage and realtime updates through ready APIs. The self-hosted version runs as a set of Docker containers.
Self-hosting keeps user data on your own server and removes per-project platform limits. You take over updates and backups.
How to set up Supabase on your VPS
- Order a VPS with Ubuntu LTS and at least 8 GB RAM.
- Install Docker and Docker Compose.
- Clone the Supabase repository and copy the example environment file.
- Change every default password and key in the file.
- Start the stack with Docker Compose and put a reverse proxy with SSL in front.
