Domain and hosting guide for small businesses in Maharashtra

Step 1: choose a domain name

Use your business name. If it is taken, add your city or trade, for example patilagro.in or deshmukhclinicpune.in. Keep it short and avoid hyphens.

Choose .in if you sell in India and .com if you also export. Register it in the owner's name and email, not in the name of a designer or employee.

Step 2: choose hosting

A normal business website needs shared hosting, not a server. Look for four things: a server in India, free SSL, daily backups, and a renewal price you know in advance.

Step 3: build the website

WordPress is the common choice. It installs in one click from cPanel and has themes for every trade. A first website needs only five pages: Home, About, Products or Services, Gallery and Contact.

• Put your phone number and a WhatsApp button at the top of every page.
• Write your address exactly as it appears on your shop board and GST papers.
• Add a Marathi version of key pages if your customers prefer Marathi.
• Use real photos of your shop, team and products.

Step 4: set up company email

Create addresses such as info@ and sales@ on your domain. Hosting plans include email accounts. Print the new address on bills and visiting cards.

Step 5: get found in your city

1. Create a Google Business Profile with the same name, address and phone as the website.
2. Choose the correct business category and add photos.
3. Ask every happy customer for a Google review.
4. List the business on Justdial and IndiaMART with the same details.
5. Mention your city and area in the page title and first paragraph of the website.
