What are Drupal and Softaculous?
Drupal is a program for building websites. It lets you manage pages and content with menus, not code. Softaculous is an app installer in your control panel. It installs programs like Drupal and can also back them up.
Why back up?
A backup is like saving your game before a hard level. If you break something, or an update goes wrong, you can go back. Back up before every update and before you change modules or themes.
Steps
- Log in to your hosting control panel. Your welcome email has the details. You can also use the Hostvento client area to reach your service.
- Open Softaculous Apps Installer.
- Click Installations or the all-installations list.
- Find your Drupal site in the list.
- Click the Backup icon beside it.
- Tick Backup Directory (your files) and Backup Database (your content and settings). A database is like a filing cabinet for your site's text and settings.
- Click Backup installation.
- Wait for the finished message.
Find and download your backup
- In Softaculous, open the Backups link.
- Find your Drupal backup. It lists the date and size.
- Click the Download icon.
- Save the file in a safe folder on your computer.
Tip: Keep a copy off the server. If the server has a problem, your copy is still safe.
Backup is not working?
Your account could be out of disk space. Remove old backups and files you do not need, then try again. If the problem stays, open a support ticket.
Quick recap
- Softaculous can back up your Drupal files and database.
