Why do you need a blog page?
WordPress is a program for building websites. By default, it shows your latest posts on the home page. But many sites want a fixed home page and a separate page for the blog. That separate page is called the posts page. It shows your articles, newest first.
You make it in three parts. First you create an empty page. Then you tell WordPress to use it for posts. Last, you add it to your menu.
Steps
Part 1: Create the pages
- Log in to your WordPress dashboard. This is your control room.
- Click Pages, then Add New.
- Type Blog as the title. Leave the body empty. WordPress fills it with posts for you.
- Click Publish.
- If you also want a fixed home page, click Add New again. Type Home as the title, add your welcome text and click Publish.
Part 2: Tell WordPress which page is which
- Go to Settings, then Reading.
- Next to Your homepage displays, choose A static page.
- In the Homepage list, choose your Home page.
- In the Posts page list, choose your Blog page.
- Click Save Changes.
Part 3: Add it to the menu
- Go to Appearance, then Menus.
- Tick Blog in the page list.
- Click Add to Menu.
- Click Save Menu.
Some newer themes use block menus instead. In that case, go to Appearance, then Editor, and add the page to the navigation.
Check it
Open your site. Click Blog in the menu. You should see your posts in a list. If the list is empty, you have no published posts yet. Add one at Posts, then Add New.
Quick recap
- Create a page named Blog and leave it empty.
- Open Settings, Reading and pick it as the Posts page.
- Pick a separate page as your Homepage if you want.
- Add the Blog page to your menu.
