What is Magento?

Magento is a program for running an online shop. It keeps a list of your products. You manage them from an admin area, which is the control room of your shop. Menu names may differ a little between Magento versions.

Warning: Prices are shown to real customers. Check the number twice before you save.

Change the normal price

  1. Log in to your Magento admin area.
  2. In the left menu, click Catalog, then Products.
  3. Find your product. Use the search box or the filters.
  4. Click the product, or click Edit in its row.
  5. Find the Price box near the top of the form.
  6. Type the new price.
  7. Click Save.

Set a sale price

  1. Open the product, as above.
  2. Click Advanced Pricing under the price box.
  3. In Special Price, type the sale price.
  4. If you want it to end on its own, fill in Special Price From and To dates.
  5. Click Done, then Save.

The old price will show crossed out, and the special price will show beside it.

Change many prices at once

  1. Go to Catalog, then Products.
  2. Tick the box of each product.
  3. Click Actions, then Update attributes.
  4. Tick Change beside Price, and type the new price.
  5. Click Save.

This sets the same price for all chosen products, so use it with care.

If the old price still shows

Magento uses a cache. A cache is a saved copy that makes pages load fast. It can show old data for a while. Go to System, then Cache Management. Select the old items and click Refresh. Also, the site may need an index update, which some stores do on a schedule.

Tip: Take a backup before bulk changes. If you need help, open a support ticket.

Quick recap

  • Go to Catalog, then Products, and open the product.
  • Change Price and click Save.
  • Use Advanced Pricing for sale prices.
  • Refresh the cache if the old price stays.
