How to Clear the Cache in Dolphin

If your Dolphin site shows old pages or old settings, clearing the cache often fixes it. This guide shows the steps.

What is Dolphin?

Dolphin is a program for building a community or social site. Members can make profiles, share content and chat. You manage it from an admin panel, which is the control room of the site. Menu names can differ between Dolphin versions.

What is a cache?

A cache is a stored copy of something. Dolphin saves copies of pages, settings and menus. This helps pages load fast. It is like keeping a snack near you, so you do not walk to the kitchen each time. But sometimes the saved copy is old. Then you see old content after a change. Clearing the cache throws away the old copies. Dolphin builds fresh ones.

Clearing the cache is safe. It does not delete your members or your posts. The site may be a little slower for a short time.

Steps

  1. Open your Dolphin site and log in as an administrator.
  2. Go to the admin panel. Look for an Administration link, or add /administration/ to your site address.
  3. Look in the admin menu for a section named Tools or Settings.
  4. Find the cache option. It may be called Cache, Clear Cache or similar.
  5. Select the cache types you want to clear. If you are not sure, choose all of them.
  6. Click the button to clear or empty the cache.
  7. Wait for the message that it is done.
  8. Reload your site. Hold Ctrl and press F5 (or Cmd and Shift and R on a Mac) to refresh your browser.

If you cannot find the option

Options differ by version. Look through the admin menus for the word "cache". As another way, you can delete the files in the cache folders of your Dolphin install using File Manager in your control panel. Warning: Only delete files inside folders named for cache, and take a backup first. Do not delete anything else.

Tip: Your browser also has a cache. If the site still looks old, clear your browser cache too.
