What does it need to run?

Dolphin is written in PHP, a language many web servers understand. It also stores its data in MySQL, a database. A database is like a big filing cabinet for your site's information. Your hosting needs a PHP version that your Dolphin release supports. Older Dolphin releases do not run on the newest PHP. Check the version rules for your release, or ask Hostvento support.

How do I install it?

  1. Download the Dolphin package from the maker's website.
  2. Create a database and a database user in your hosting control panel.
  3. Upload the files to your web folder, using the file manager or FTP. FTP is a way to copy files to a server.
  4. Open your site address in a browser. The install wizard starts.
  5. Type the database name, user and password when asked.
  6. Set an admin name and password. Write them down in a safe place.
  7. Finish the wizard. Then follow the on-screen note to set folder rules and remove the install files.

If your hosting has a one-click installer, it may offer Dolphin. Ask Hostvento support whether it is on your plan.

Where is the admin panel?

In Dolphin 7 you usually find it by adding /administration/ to your site address. Log in with the admin account you made.

Can I change how it looks?

Yes. Dolphin uses templates, which are sets of files that control the design. You can switch templates in the admin panel and edit colours and images.

How do I keep it safe?

  • Keep Dolphin updated with the maker's patches.
