What is Remository?
Joomla is a program for building websites. You can add extra features to it with extensions, which are add-ons. Remository is one such extension. It is a file download manager. Think of it as a library on your website. Visitors can browse shelves of files and take the ones they want.
Remository is older software. Newer download managers exist, but the main ideas are alike.
Main functions
Containers
A container is a folder inside the library. You can place containers inside other containers. This helps you group files by topic, for example Manuals, Drivers and Forms.
Files
You can add files in two ways. You can upload a file from your computer. You can also link to a file that sits somewhere else. Each file gets a title and a short description.
Downloads
Visitors click a file to download it. Remository can count how often each file is downloaded. This shows you which files are most popular.
Access control
You can decide who can see or download a file. For example, some files can be for everyone. Others can be for logged-in members only.
Search
Visitors can search the library by words, which helps when there are many files.
Submissions and approval
You can let members send in files. A new file can wait for your approval before it goes live. This keeps bad files out.
Extras
Depending on the version and settings, there may also be ratings, comments and lists of newest or most downloaded files.
Where do I find it?
Log in to the Joomla admin area. Look in the Components menu for Remository. Names of tabs differ between versions, so look around the screen for items such as Containers and Files.
