Tip: Plesk 9.x is an old version. Newer versions of Plesk work in a similar way, but the buttons may look different.

What are Plesk and b2evolution?

Plesk is a control panel. A control panel is a web page where you manage your hosting, such as files, email and databases. b2evolution is free software for making blogs and small community sites.

Plesk can install apps for you if its application list includes b2evolution. If it does not, install it by hand. Ask Hostvento support what your plan allows.

Before you start

Find your Plesk login in your welcome email, or use the client area at https://secure.hostvento.com/clientarea.php. Take a backup if the domain already has a website.

Method 1: Use the Plesk application list

  1. Log in to Plesk.
  2. Click Domains and open your domain name.
  3. Click Applications (in some builds it is called Application Vault or Web Applications).
  4. Click Add New Application.
  5. Pick b2evolution from the list.
  6. Click Install.
  7. Read the licence and tick the box to accept it. Click Next.
  8. Type the folder, an admin username, a password and an email. Leave the folder empty to install on the main address.
  9. Click Install and wait for the success message.

Method 2: Install by hand

  1. Download the b2evolution zip file from the official b2evolution website to your computer.
  2. In Plesk, create a database. Open Databases, then Add New Database. Also create a database user with a password. Write down the name, user and password.
  3. Open File Manager and go to the httpdocs folder. This folder holds your website files.
  4. Click Upload. Choose the zip file.
  5. Select the zip file and click Extract. Move the contents of the extracted folder up into httpdocs if needed.
  6. Open your domain in a browser. The b2evolution setup page appears.
  7. Type the database name, user and password. The database host is usually localhost.
  8. Follow the screens and choose an admin password.
Tip: After the install, delete the zip file and the install folder if the software tells you to. This is safer.
