What are CMS Made Simple and Softaculous?
A CMS (content management system) is software that lets you build and change a website from your browser. CMS Made Simple is a light and easy one, often used for small business sites.
Softaculous is an app installer. It is like an app store for your hosting. It downloads the software and sets up the database for you. If you do not see Softaculous in your control panel, ask Hostvento support whether it is on your plan.
Steps
- Log in to your hosting control panel. Your login is in your welcome email. You can also start from the client area at https://secure.hostvento.com/clientarea.php.
- Find Softaculous Apps Installer and click it.

- In the search box, type CMS Made Simple.

- Click the result.
- Click Install Now.

- Under Choose Protocol, pick
https://if your site has an SSL certificate. SSL makes the connection private. Otherwise pickhttp://. - Under Choose Domain, select your website name.
- In In Directory, leave the box empty to install on the main address. Type a folder name, like
cms, to use a sub-folder.
- Type your Site Name and a short Site Description.

- Under Admin Account, choose an admin username and a strong password. Type your email address. Write them down in a safe place.
- Pick a language.
- Scroll down and click Install.
- Wait for the bar to finish. You see links to your new site and its admin area.
Warning: Installing into a folder that has a live website can overwrite files. Take a backup first.
Log in to the admin area
- Click the admin link Softaculous shows. Or type your site address followed by
/admin.

- Type your admin username and password.

- Click Submit.
You now see the admin panel, where you add pages, change the design and manage users.
Tip: Softaculous can make backups of your app and tell you when updates are ready. Look in its settings for these options.
