What is the admin area?
CMS Made Simple is software for building websites. The admin area is the private control room. Visitors cannot see it. You use it to write pages, change the design and manage users.
Log in
- Open your web browser.
- Type your site address followed by
/admin. For example,yoursite.com/admin. - Type your username and password.
- Click Submit.
Forgot the password? Click the lost password link on the login page.
The main menu
The top bar has the main sections. Names can change a little between versions. Here are the usual ones.
| Menu | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Content | Add and change pages. Open File Manager and Image Manager here. |
| Layout | Change the look. Here you find templates, style sheets and design settings. |
| User Management | Add users, make groups and set what each group can do. |
| Extensions | Add-ons, called modules, and tags. A module adds a feature, like a news list or a form. |
| Site Admin | General settings, such as site name, and tools to clear the cache. |
| My Preferences | Your own settings, like your language and your password. |
Common jobs
Add a page
- Click Content, then Content Manager.
- Click Add New Content.
- Type a title and your text.
- Click Submit.
Change your password
- Click My Preferences.
- Open User Settings or My Account.
- Type a new password twice.
- Click Submit.
Add a user
- Click User Management, then Users.
- Click Add New User.
- Fill in the name, password and group.
- Click Submit.
Tip: Check the Site Admin menu or the front page of the admin area for update notices. Take a backup before you update.
