What is a wrapper?
A wrapper shows another web page inside your page, like a window cut into a wall. Your menu and design stay in place. The other page appears in the middle. It uses an HTML feature called an iframe, which means an inline frame.
The Wrapper menu type exists in Joomla 1.5, 2.5 and 3.x. Joomla 4 and newer do not have it as a menu type. There you can use a Custom module or an article with an iframe tag. Search engines may not count the framed content as part of your site.
Steps
- Log in to the Joomla administrator area. The address is your site plus
/administrator. - Click Menus and choose the menu you want, for example Main Menu.
- Click New (or Add New Menu Item).
- Type a name in Menu Title. This is the text visitors click.
- Next to Menu Item Type, click Select.
- Choose Wrapper. It may be in a group called Wrapper or Internal Link.
- In the Wrapper URL box, type the full address of the page to show, for example
https://example.com/page. - Set Scroll Bars. Choose Auto if you are not sure.
- Set Width and Height. Use
100%for width and a number like800for height, in pixels. A pixel is one tiny dot on the screen. - Set Auto Height to Yes if you want the frame to grow with the content. This only works when the framed page is on your own domain.
- Click Save & Close.
Open your site and click the new menu item. The other page appears inside your page.
If the page does not show
Some sites block being framed. This is a safety feature. You will see an empty box or an error. You cannot fix this from Joomla. Use a link that opens in a new window instead.
If your site uses https, the framed page must also use https. Browsers block insecure content inside a secure page.
