What are Drupal and Softaculous?
Drupal is a free tool for building websites. It is a content management system, or CMS. A CMS lets you add pages and posts from a simple screen, like writing in a notebook.
Softaculous is an auto-installer. It is like an app store inside your hosting panel. You pick an app, fill in a short form, and it sets everything up for you. Ask Hostvento support if Softaculous is on your plan.
Before you start
- Have your hosting login details ready. They are in your welcome email.
- Know which domain (website name) you want to use.
- Pick a strong admin password. Use letters, numbers and symbols.
Steps
- Log in to the client area.
- Open your hosting service and log in to your hosting control panel.
- Find Softaculous Apps Installer. It is often in a section named Software. You may also see a Softaculous icon.
- Use the search box and type Drupal.
- Click Drupal, then click Install Now.
- Under Choose Domain, pick your website name.
- Leave In Directory empty if you want Drupal on your main address. Type a name such as
siteto put it in a sub-folder instead. - Under Admin Account, type a username, a password and your email address. Write them down in a safe place.
- Choose a language.
- Scroll down and click Install.
- Wait until you see a success message. It shows two links: one for your site and one for the admin area.
Check that it works
Open the site link from the success message. You should see a new Drupal home page. Then open the admin link and log in with the account you made.
If something goes wrong
If the install fails, check that the directory field is empty or holds a new folder name. Drupal cannot install over a folder that already has files. Still stuck? Open a support ticket.
