What are Pligg and Softaculous?
Pligg is a free tool for building a social news site. People post links and stories. Others vote for the best ones. Sites like this are called social bookmarking sites.
Softaculous is an auto-installer. It works like an app store inside your hosting panel. It sets up the app for you. Ask Hostvento support whether Softaculous and Pligg are on your plan.
Before you start
- Find your hosting login in your welcome email.
- Decide which domain (website name) will hold Pligg.
- Think of a strong admin password.
Steps
- Log in to the client area.
- Open your hosting service and go to your hosting control panel.
- Find Softaculous Apps Installer.
- Type Pligg in the search box.
- Click Pligg, then click Install Now.
- In Choose Domain, pick your website name.
- In In Directory, clear the box to use your main address. Or type a folder name, such as
news. - Type a site name and description.
- Under Admin Account, enter a username, a password and your email.
- Click Install.
- Wait for the success message. It gives you a link to the site and a link to the admin area.
Tip: Pligg is old software and gets few updates. Keep a backup and use a strong password.
After the install
- Open the admin link.
- Log in with the account you made.
- Look through the settings. Set your site title and the rules for new users.
If it does not work
If Softaculous says the folder is not empty, pick another folder or empty the old one. If Pligg is not in the list, it may not be on your plan. Open a support ticket to ask.
