What is CWP?
A control panel is a website dashboard for running a server. It lets you add sites, emails and databases with clicks instead of commands. Control Web Panel, or CWP, is one such panel for Linux servers.
Before you start
- You need a fresh, clean server. CWP should be the first thing you install. It changes many system settings.
- CWP supports RPM-based systems from the CentOS family, such as AlmaLinux or Rocky Linux. Check the CWP website for the versions it supports now.
- Use a server with a few GB of memory. Check the CWP requirements for the exact number.
- Set a hostname. A hostname is the name of your server, like
server.example.com.
Warning: Installing a panel changes the whole server. Do not do it on a server that already hosts live sites unless you have a full backup.
Steps
- Log in to your server as root using SSH.
- Update the system:
yum -y update
This downloads and installs the latest updates.
- Install the tool used to download files:
yum -y install wget
- Move to a work folder:
cd /usr/local/src
- Download the CWP install script. Copy the current address from the official CWP website, then run:
wget http://centos-webpanel.com/cwp-el7-latest
The file name may differ for your system. Always use the address shown on the CWP website.
- Restart the server:
reboot
- Log in again, go to the same folder, and run the script:
cd /usr/local/src
sh cwp-el7-latest
- Wait. The install can take 20 to 40 minutes.
- When it ends, the screen shows your login details and a MySQL root password. Write them down safely.
- Reboot the server one more time.
- Open your browser and go to
http://your-server-ip:2030. Log in as root with your server's root password.
Tip: This guide uses the older EL7 script name. Newer versions work in a similar way, but the file name and supported system change. Check the CWP website.
If anything fails, ask Hostvento support. You can open a support ticket.
Quick recap
- CWP is a free control panel for Linux servers.
- Install it on a clean server as root.
- Update, download the script, reboot, then run it.
- Save the passwords shown at the end.
- Log in on port 2030.
