What is a category?
A category is a group of similar products. In a real shop, think of the signs above the aisles: "Shoes", "Bags" and "Hats". Online, categories do the same job. They help visitors browse your store.
CubeCart is an online store program. You add categories from its admin area.
Steps
- Open your CubeCart admin page in a browser. The address is usually your domain followed by the admin file name you chose during setup, such as
yourdomain.com/admin.php. - Log in with your admin username and password.
- In the menu, click Inventory.
- Click Categories.
- Click the Add Category button (a plus sign in some versions).
- In the Name box, type the category name, such as "Shoes".
- Choose a Parent. Leave it as top level for a main category. Pick another category to make this one a sub-category.
- Write a short text in the Description box. This text is shown to shoppers.
- Set the Status to enabled so the category shows in your store.
- Upload an image if you want one. Use a small, clear picture.
- Open the SEO tab if you see one. Add a short page title and description. These help search engines.
- Click Save.
Put products in the category
- Go to Inventory, then Products.
- Click the product you want to move.
- Find the Categories section. Pick your new category.
- Click Save.
Tip: Keep category names short and clear. Do not make too many levels. Two levels are enough for most shops.
The menu names can differ a little between CubeCart versions. If you cannot find an item, look for words like "Inventory" or "Catalogue".
