What is SSL?
SSL is a security lock for websites. It scrambles the data between your visitor and your store. A site with SSL starts with https:// and shows a padlock. Online shoppers expect it.
Before you start: An SSL certificate must be installed on your domain. Open
https://yourdomain.com in your browser. If you see a warning, ask Hostvento support to check the certificate. Then take a backup of your database.Magento 2 steps
- Log in to the Magento admin panel.
- Click Stores, then Configuration.
- In the left list, open General, then click Web.
- Open the Base URLs section. Change Base URL to your address starting with
https://. - Open Base URLs (Secure). Change Secure Base URL to your
https://address. - Set Use Secure URLs on Storefront to Yes.
- Set Use Secure URLs in Admin to Yes.
- Click Save Config.
- Go to System, then Cache Management, and click Flush Magento Cache.
Magento 1 steps
- Log in to the admin panel.
- Click System, then Configuration.
- Under General, click Web.
- Open the Secure section.
- Change Base URL to your
https://address. - Set Use Secure URLs in Frontend to Yes.
- Set Use Secure URLs in Admin to Yes.
- Open the Unsecure section as well and change its Base URL to
https://if you want every page secure. - Click Save Config.
- Go to System, then Cache Management, and click Flush Magento Cache.
Warning: Do not turn on the secure options before the certificate works. If you do, you may lose access to the admin panel. You would then need to fix the address in the database table
core_config_data, using phpMyAdmin. Ask Hostvento support if you need help.Check your work
- Open your home page, a product page and the checkout.
- Look for the padlock on each one.
- If the lock shows a warning, a picture or script still loads from
http://. Change it tohttps://.
