What is SSL?
SSL is a lock for your site. It hides the data that moves between your visitor and your store, like a sealed envelope. When it works, the address starts with https:// and a padlock shows in the browser.
Two steps are needed. First, a certificate must be installed. Second, CS-Cart must be told to use it.
Step 1: Check the certificate
- Open a new browser tab and type
https://yourdomain.com. - If you see a padlock and your site, the certificate works.
- If you see a warning, log in to the client area and ask Hostvento support to install or fix the certificate. You can use the ticket page.
Step 2: Set the secure address
- Log in to your CS-Cart admin panel.
- Open the page that lists your stores or storefronts. In many versions it is Administration, Stores, or Stores in the top menu. Click the name of your store.
- Find the box called Secure host (in some versions, Secure storefront URL). Type your domain name with no
https://, for examplewww.example.com. - Click Save.
Step 3: Choose what is secure
- Go to Settings, then Security settings. In some versions it is under Settings, then General.
- Find Secure checkout and switch it on. It protects the checkout and login pages.
- Find Secure admin area and switch it on. It protects your admin panel.
- Find the option for a Secure storefront, which puts every page on HTTPS, and switch it on if you want that.
- Click Save.
Step 4: Clear the cache
- Look for a cache option in the admin panel and clear it.
- Visit your store in a private window.
- Check the padlock on the home page, a product page and checkout.
Warning: Do not switch on secure options before the certificate works. You could lock yourself out of the admin panel. If that happens, ask Hostvento support for help.
Tip: Menu names change between CS-Cart versions. If you cannot find an item, use the search box in the admin panel.
Quick recap
- Test
https://in the browser first. - Set the Secure host on your store page.
- Turn on secure checkout, admin and storefront in the security settings.
- Clear the cache and check the padlock.
