Why does speed matter?
A fast store keeps shoppers happy. People leave pages that take too long to open. Search engines also like fast sites. Most slowness comes from heavy pictures, too many add-ons, old software or no caching.
Tip 1: Turn on caching
A cache is a store of saved copies of pages and data. The server does not have to build every page from scratch. It is like keeping cooked food ready instead of cooking each order new.
- Log in to your CS-Cart admin panel.
- Look for the cache settings. In many versions they are under Administration, then Storage, then Cache.
- Turn on the options for caching of the registry, templates and HTML blocks if you see them.
- Save.
If you see choices for a cache backend, ask Hostvento support which one is available on your plan.
Tip 2: Make pictures smaller
- Before you upload a photo, shrink it on your computer. A product picture rarely needs to be wider than about 1000 pixels. A pixel is one dot on the screen.
- Use JPG for photos and PNG for logos.
- Use a free image tool to reduce file size without hurting how it looks.
Tip 3: Turn off add-ons you do not use
- Go to Add-ons, then Manage add-ons.
- Look for add-ons you never use.
- Switch each one to Disabled. Or remove it if you are sure.
Tip 4: Use a newer PHP version
PHP is the language CS-Cart is written in. Newer versions run faster. In your control panel, look for Select PHP Version or MultiPHP Manager. Check which versions your CS-Cart version supports before you change it.
Tip 5: Keep CS-Cart up to date
Updates often fix speed problems. Always back up before you update.
Tip 6: Clean old data
- Delete old log entries and unused products.
- Clear the cache now and then.
Tip 7: Check your plan
A big store with many visitors may need more server power. Look at the resource page in your control panel. If usage hits the limits, ask Hostvento support about your options.
Quick recap
- Turn on caching.
- Shrink your pictures.
- Disable unused add-ons.
- Use a newer PHP version that CS-Cart supports.
- Keep software updated and check your resource use.
