Install a Language Pack in VirtueMart

What is VirtueMart?

VirtueMart is a shop add-on for Joomla. Joomla is a tool for building websites. A language pack is a small file set that holds the shop words in one language, such as "Add to cart" or "Checkout".

Before you start

• Log in to your Joomla admin area. It is usually at your site address followed by /administrator.
• Download the language pack ZIP for your VirtueMart version. Get it from the official VirtueMart website. A ZIP is a folder squeezed into one file.
• Take a backup of your site first.

Steps to install the pack

1. In the Joomla admin menu, click System.
2. Under Install, click Extensions.
3. Open the Upload Package File tab.
4. Drag your language ZIP into the box, or click to browse and pick it.
5. Wait for the green message that says the install worked.

If your pack does not install this way, check that the ZIP is the right one. Some downloads hold several ZIP files. Unzip the download and upload each one.

Make Joomla use the language

The shop language follows Joomla. You may also need the Joomla language itself.

1. Go to System > Install > Languages.
2. Click Install Languages. Find your language and install it, if it is not there yet.
3. Go to System > Manage > Languages (Content Languages) or Languages under Site, depending on your version.
4. Set the language as default for the site, or add it as a second language.

Check your shop

1. Open your shop in a new tab.
2. Look at the product page and cart. The words should be in the new language.

If some words stay in English

• The pack may not match your VirtueMart version.
• Clear the Joomla cache under System > Clear Cache.
• Some text, like product names, is typed by you. Translate that in the product pages.
