What is a VirtueMart theme?
VirtueMart is a shop add-on for Joomla. Joomla is a tool for building websites. VirtueMart pages get their look from your Joomla template. A template is the design of your whole site. Many VirtueMart themes come as a Joomla template, or as a small add-on that styles the shop pages.
Before you start
- Download the theme ZIP from the seller. Check that it fits your Joomla and VirtueMart versions.
- Take a backup of your site first.
- Log in to Joomla admin. It is usually at your site address followed by
/administrator.
Steps
- In the Joomla admin menu, click System.
- Under Install, click Extensions.
- Open the Upload Package File tab.
- Drag the theme ZIP into the box, or click to pick it from your computer.
- Wait for the success message.
- Go to System, then Site Templates under Templates.
- Find your new template in the list.
- Click the star next to it to make it the default.
- Open your shop in a new tab to see the new look.
If the theme is a VirtueMart add-on and not a full template, it may have its own settings. Look under Components > VirtueMart, or under Extensions > Plugins or Modules. The seller's guide tells you where.
If the shop looks odd
- Clear the cache. Go to System > Clear Cache, select all, then click Delete.
- Press Ctrl and F5 in your browser.
- Check that the theme matches your versions.
- Go back to your old template by starring it again.
Tip: Menu labels change a little between Joomla versions. Use the search box in the admin menu if you cannot find an item.
