What is happening?
VirtueMart is a shop add-on for Joomla, a system for building websites. It can show a list of products a visitor has looked at lately. This list sits in a module or in a setting of the store. A module is a small box that shows content in a part of the page. Removing the box is simple, and it does not delete any products.
Warning: take a backup of your site before making changes.
Method 1: Turn off the module
- Log in to your Joomla admin area. It is usually at
yourdomain.com/administrator. - Go to Extensions then Modules.
- In the search box, type
recentorviewed. - Find the VirtueMart module that shows recently viewed products. Names vary by version, for example "VirtueMart Product" or a latest products module set to show recently viewed items.
- Click the green tick in the Status column. It turns into a red cross.
- Reload your home page. The block should be gone.
Method 2: Show it on other pages only
- Open the module by clicking its title.
- Click the Menu Assignment tab.
- Choose On all pages except those selected.
- Untick Home in the list.
- Click Save & Close.
Method 3: Change the store setting
In some versions, the recently viewed list is a setting in the shop's own settings.
- Go to Components then VirtueMart.
- Open Configuration.
- Look on the Shop and Templates tabs for an option such as "Show recently viewed products" or a similar number field.
- Switch it off, or set the number to 0.
- Click Save.
If it is still showing
- Go to System then Clear Cache and clear it.
- Check your template. Some templates add the list in a template file. Ask the template author or Hostvento support if you are not sure.
Tip: Do not uninstall the module unless you are sure. Turning it off is easy to undo.
Quick recap
- Open Joomla Extensions then Modules.
- Unpublish the recently viewed module, or hide it on the Home page.
- Check VirtueMart configuration if it still shows.
- Clear the cache.
