What is VirtueMart?
VirtueMart is a free shop add-on for Joomla. Joomla is a tool for building websites. A payment method is the way a customer pays you, such as a card, PayPal or cash on delivery.
Steps
- Log in to the Joomla administrator area of your website.
- In the top menu, click Components, then VirtueMart.
- In the VirtueMart menu on the left, click Payment Methods.
- Click New to add a method.
- Type a name in the Payment Name box. Customers will see this name at checkout, for example "Pay by card".
- Set Published to Yes. A method that is not published stays hidden.
- Choose a Payment Method from the list. This is called a plugin, a small add-on that talks to the payment company. If your choice is not listed, go to Extensions, then Manage, and install the plugin first. Also check that it is enabled under Extensions, then Plugins.
- Choose which shopper groups can use it. Leave it empty if everyone may use it.
- Click Save. The page now shows a new tab with the settings of that plugin.
- Open the Configuration tab. Fill in the details your payment company gave you, such as an account email or key. Keep these private.
- Click Save & Close.
- Test it. Visit your shop, add a product to the cart and go to checkout. Confirm your new method appears and works.
Tip: Most payment companies offer a test mode. Use it first so no real money moves while you check that everything works.
If the method does not show
- Make sure it is published.
- Check that the plugin is enabled.
- Check the shopper group and country limits you set.
Quick recap
- Go to Components, VirtueMart, Payment Methods.
- Click New, name it, publish it and pick a plugin.
- Save, then enter your payment company details.
- Test at checkout before you go live.
