What is a timezone?
A timezone is a part of the world that shares the same clock time. When it is morning in one country, it may be evening in another. Softaculous is a tool inside cPanel that installs apps such as WordPress. It shows times for things like backups and installs. If the timezone is wrong, those times look strange. cPanel is the control panel where you manage your hosting.
Ask Hostvento support if Softaculous is on your plan.
Steps
- Log in to cPanel from your client area.
- Click Softaculous Apps Installer. If you cannot find it, type Softaculous in the search box.
- At the top right, click the gear icon for settings. In some versions it is called Edit Settings.
- Look for the box named Timezone.
- Click the box and choose your timezone from the list. The list usually shows a place name, such as a big city near you, with its offset from UTC. UTC is the world standard time.
- Click Save or Edit Settings.
- Wait for the green message.
- Open Backups or All Installations and check the time shown.
What it changes
- The time stamps for backups.
- The time of scheduled automatic backups.
- Times shown in Softaculous emails and screens.
What it does not change
- The timezone of your apps. WordPress, for example, has its own timezone in Settings, then General, called Timezone.
- The server clock. This is set by the server owner.
- The time shown for emails in your mail program.
If you cannot find the setting
Softaculous looks a bit different from version to version. Check the settings under the gear icon, or under a menu named Preferences. If it still is not there, open a support ticket and we can point you to the right place.
Quick recap
- A timezone makes times match your local clock.
- Open Softaculous, click the gear icon and find Timezone.
- Pick yours and save.
- Set your app's timezone separately.
