What is phpMyAdmin?
A database is a store where your website keeps its data, like posts, users and orders. It works like a set of spreadsheets. phpMyAdmin is a web tool that lets you see and change those spreadsheets with clicks.
Before you start
You need a database. If you have none, create one in DirectAdmin under MySQL Management. Your website app may have made one already, such as WordPress.
Steps
- Log in to DirectAdmin. The address is usually
https://yourdomain.com:2222. Your welcome email has your details. - Find the menu or search box. Look for MySQL Management. In some skins it sits under Extra Features. You can also type "MySQL" in the search box.
- Click MySQL Management. You see your database list.
- Look for the link phpMyAdmin. In many setups it is at the top or next to the list. Some versions show a link named Login to phpMyAdmin next to each database.
- Click it. A new tab opens.
- If a login box shows, type the database user name and password. This user is not your DirectAdmin login. It is the database user you created.
- Click Go or Log in.
You now see your databases on the left side. Click one to see its tables.
What you can do
- Export tab: save a copy of the database as a file. Good for a backup.
- Import tab: load a saved file.
- SQL tab: run a database command.
- Browse: look at the rows in a table.
Warning: Deleting a table or row cannot be undone. Click Export and save a backup before you change or drop anything.
If you cannot find the link, your plan may use a different phpMyAdmin address. Ask Hostvento support, or open a ticket at https://secure.hostvento.com/submitticket.php.
