Disable IP Validation in DirectAdmin

This guide explains why DirectAdmin may log you out again and again, and how to turn off the IP check.

What is IP validation?

An IP address is a number that identifies your internet connection, like a house number. DirectAdmin remembers the IP address you logged in from. On each click it checks that you still use the same one. This is IP validation. If your IP changes, DirectAdmin ends the session as a safety step.

Some people have an IP that changes often. This can happen on mobile data, on a VPN or in some offices. They get logged out again and again. Turning the check off helps, but it makes your login a bit less safe.

Try these safer fixes first

  • Use a steady connection, such as home Wi-Fi.
  • Turn off your VPN while you use DirectAdmin.
  • Log in again and keep one browser tab open.

Turn it off as a user

  1. Log in to DirectAdmin.
  2. Open your account settings, or the Login Keys page. A login key is a special password for one job, with limits that you choose.
  3. Look for an option about checking the IP address, or about allowed IP addresses.
  4. Change it so the session does not depend on one IP.
  5. Click Save.

The exact name of this option is different between versions. If you cannot find it, ask Hostvento support whether your plan allows the change.

Turn it off as the server owner

This part needs root access, so it is for VPS and dedicated server owners. Root is the all-powerful account of a server.

  1. Log in to the server over SSH, a secure way to type commands.
  2. Open the DirectAdmin settings file /usr/local/directadmin/conf/directadmin.conf with a text editor.
  3. Find or add the line that controls the IP check. Check the official DirectAdmin option list for its exact name.
  4. Save the file.
  5. Restart DirectAdmin:
systemctl restart directadmin

This command restarts the panel so it reads the new setting.

Tip: Make a copy of directadmin.conf before you edit it. A mistake can stop the panel from starting.

Quick recap

  • IP validation logs you out if your IP address changes.
  • Try a steady connection or turn off VPN first.
  • Turning it off makes sessions less safe.
  • Server owners can change it in the DirectAdmin settings file.
