How to Set Up Your Email on an Android Phone

What you need first

• Your full email address, such as name@yourdomain.com.
• Your email password.
• Your mail server names. These are the addresses your phone uses to fetch and send mail. They are in your welcome email. In cPanel you can also open Email Accounts and click Connect Devices.

IMAP or POP3?

IMAP keeps your mail on the server and shows it on your phone. If you read mail on a phone and a computer, IMAP keeps both the same. POP3 downloads the mail to one device. For most people, IMAP is the better choice.

Steps

Names of screens can vary by phone maker. The steps below use the Gmail app, which is on most Android phones.

1. Open the Gmail app.
2. Tap your profile picture at the top right.
3. Tap Add another account.
4. Tap Other.
5. Type your full email address and tap Next.
6. Choose Personal (IMAP) and tap Next.
7. Type your password and tap Next.
8. On the incoming server screen, type your username (the full email address), your password, and the incoming server name.
9. Make sure the security type is SSL/TLS. The usual IMAP port with SSL is 993.
10. Tap Next.
11. On the outgoing server screen, type the outgoing server name. Keep Require sign-in turned on.
12. Type your username and password again. The usual outgoing port with SSL is 465.
13. Tap Next.
14. Choose how often to sync and tap Next.
15. Give the account a name and tap Done.

If it does not work

• Check that your password is right. Try it in webmail first.
• Use the full email address as the username, not just the first part.
• Check the server names and ports in your welcome email.
• Make sure your phone is online.
