What you need first
- Your full email address, such as
name@yourdomain.com. - Your email password.
- Your incoming and outgoing mail server names. Find them in your welcome email. In cPanel, open Email Accounts and click Connect Devices.
A mail server is a computer that stores and sends your email. Your phone needs its name to find your mailbox.
IMAP or POP?
IMAP keeps your mail on the server, so your phone and your computer show the same mail. POP downloads mail to one device. IMAP is the safer pick for most people.
Steps
- Open the Settings app.
- Scroll down and tap Mail. On some iOS versions, it is under Apps first.
- Tap Accounts.
- Tap Add Account.
- Tap Other.
- Tap Add Mail Account.
- Fill in Name, Email, Password and Description. The name is what people see when you send mail.
- Tap Next.
- Choose IMAP at the top.
- Under Incoming Mail Server, type the host name. Type your full email address as the user name, and your password.
- Under Outgoing Mail Server, type the host name, the user name and the password.
- Tap Next. The phone checks your details.
- Choose what to sync, such as Mail.
- Tap Save.
Check the ports and security
- Go back to Settings, Mail, Accounts, and tap your new account.
- Tap your email address, then Advanced.
- Turn on Use SSL. The usual IMAP port with SSL is
993. - For the outgoing server, tap SMTP and open the primary server. Turn on Use SSL. The usual port is
465.
Tip: Use the exact ports from your welcome email if they are different. Those are the right ones for your account.
If it does not work
- Test the same password in webmail.
- Check for spelling mistakes in the server names.
- Make sure you used the full email address as the user name.
