Set Up Rules to Forward Your Emails

You can have your mail copied to another address automatically. This guide shows two ways: cPanel forwarders and Roundcube filters.

What is a forwarding rule?

A forwarding rule sends your incoming email to another place. It is like asking the post office to send your letters to a new home. You can forward everything, or only mail that matches a rule, such as mail from one person.

Way 1: Forward everything with a cPanel forwarder

  1. Log in to cPanel.
  2. Open Forwarders in the Email section.
  3. Click Add Forwarder.
  4. Type the part before @ in Address.
  5. Pick your domain.
  6. Type the target address in Destination.
  7. Click Add Forwarder.

Every email sent to your address is now copied to the target.

Way 2: Forward only some emails with a filter

A filter is a rule with a condition. If an email matches, an action happens.

  1. Log in to webmail at yourdomain.com/webmail. Open Roundcube.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Click Filters. If you do not see it, the feature may be off. Ask Hostvento support.
  4. Click the + or Create button to add a filter.
  5. Give the filter a name, such as "Forward invoices".
  6. Under the rule, pick a part of the email, like From or Subject.
  7. Choose a test, such as contains, and type the word or address.
  8. Under actions, choose Send message copy to or Redirect message to.
  9. Type the target address.
  10. Click Save.

The difference: "Send copy" keeps the mail in your inbox too. "Redirect" sends it away and does not keep it.

Another place in cPanel

cPanel also has Email Filters in the Email section. It works for the whole account and has similar rules.

Turn off or remove a rule

  1. Open Forwarders or Filters again.
  2. Find the rule.
  3. Click Delete or switch it off.
Tip: Do not forward mail to an address that forwards it back. This makes a loop and floods both inboxes.

Quick recap

  • A forwarder sends all mail to another address.
  • A filter forwards only mail that matches your rule.
  • Use "copy" if you want to keep the original.
  • Avoid forwarding loops.
