What is the problem?
A .pst file is Outlook's own storage file. It holds your old mail, contacts and calendar. Roundcube is the webmail program in cPanel, and it does not open .pst files. So we use a bridge. The bridge is Outlook itself, connected to your cPanel mailbox with IMAP. IMAP is a way for a mail program to see and manage the folders on a mail server.
What you need
- A Windows computer with Outlook installed.
- Your .pst file saved on that computer.
- A cPanel email account. The settings are in cPanel under Email Accounts, then Connect Devices.
- Enough free space in the mailbox for all the mail. Check the quota first.
Steps
- Open Outlook.
- Add your cPanel email as an IMAP account. Use File, then Add Account, and enter the server names and ports from cPanel.
- Let the folders show up on the left side.
- Open the .pst file. Click File, Open & Export, then Open Outlook Data File.
- Pick your .pst file. It appears as another set of folders on the left.
- Click a folder inside the .pst, such as Inbox.
- Press Ctrl+A to select all the messages.
- Drag them onto the Inbox of the cPanel account. Or right-click and choose Move or Copy.
- Repeat for Sent Items and any other folder you want. Create the same folders in the cPanel account first if needed.
- Wait until Outlook finishes syncing. It may take a long time for big files.
Choose Copy if you want to keep the original in the .pst file.
Check in Roundcube
- Go to
yourdomain.com/webmail. - Log in with the same email address.
- Open Roundcube and look for the folders and messages.
Good to know
- Contacts and calendar items do not move with mail. Export contacts as a CSV or vCard file, and import them into Roundcube under Contacts.
- If your mailbox fills up, ask Hostvento support or raise the quota in cPanel.
Tip: Move a small folder first as a test. If it appears in Roundcube, move the rest.
Quick recap
- Roundcube does not open .pst files.
- Connect Outlook to your cPanel mailbox with IMAP.
- Open the .pst in Outlook and copy folders across.
- Check the result in webmail.
