Why delete an FTP account?

FTP is a way to send files between a computer and your website. An FTP account is one login for that. If a worker leaves, or you stop using a tool, the login should go. Old logins are open doors that someone could misuse.

Webuzo is a control panel, a web page where you manage your hosting. Ask Hostvento support if it is on your plan.

Warning: once deleted, the user cannot log in again. Anyone or any program that used the account will stop working. Make sure nothing important depends on it. Take a backup of your files first if you are unsure.

Steps

  1. Log in to your Webuzo panel.
    manage ftp accounts in webuzo
  2. Open FTP Accounts. If you cannot see it, type "FTP" in the search box.
  3. Find the user in the list.
  4. Check the username twice. Do not delete the wrong one.
  5. Click the Delete icon (often a red bin or cross) beside the account.
  6. Read the pop-up message. Some versions ask whether to remove the files too. Choose the option you really want.
  7. Click Yes or Confirm.
  8. Wait for the success message.
  9. Check that the account is gone from the list.
Tip: If the account has a home folder, the files in it may stay on the server after the account is deleted. Check the folder in File Manager and delete or keep it as you wish.

Test that it worked

  1. Open your FTP program, such as FileZilla.
  2. Try to log in with the deleted username.
  3. You should see a login error. That means the account is removed.

Other notes

  • Menu names can differ a little between Webuzo versions.
  • You cannot delete your main account this way.
  • If the delete button does not work, open a support ticket.

Quick recap

  • Open FTP Accounts in Webuzo.
  • Click Delete beside the right user and confirm.
  • Back up first if needed.
  • Test that the login no longer works.
