Why should you log out?
When you log in, the website remembers you for a while. If you walk away, another person can sit down and use your account. They could see your invoices or change your details.
Logging out closes your session. A session is the time you stay signed in. It is like locking the door when you leave a room.
You should always log out when you use a shared computer. Examples are a school computer, a library or a cafe.
Steps
- Go to the client area at https://secure.hostvento.com/clientarea.php. You should still be signed in.
- Look at the top right corner of the page.
- Click your name, or the account icon, to open a small menu.
- Click Logout.
- The page returns to the login screen. This tells you that you are signed out.
The position of the button can differ a little on small phone screens. On a phone, tap the menu icon with three lines first. Then look for Logout.
Check that it worked
- Press the Back button in your browser.
- You should not see your account details. The site should ask you to log in again.
If you forgot to log out on another computer
- Log in from your own device.
- Change your password. See the guide on changing your client area password.
- Check your invoices and details for anything odd.
If you see something strange, open a support ticket.
Logging out of the control panel
Your hosting control panel is a different login. Log out there too when you finish. Look for a Log Out link or a power icon, usually in the top right corner.
Quick recap
- Logging out protects your account on shared computers.
- Click your name at the top right, then Logout.
- You should land on the login page.
- Change your password if you forgot to log out somewhere.
- Log out of the control panel as well.
