What does uninstalling do?
Softaculous is a tool in cPanel that installs website apps. cPanel is the control panel where you manage your hosting. When you uninstall an app, Softaculous removes it from your account. Think of it as taking a book off a shelf and throwing it away.
Warning: Uninstalling can delete your site files and database for good. A database is where your site keeps its text and settings. Make a backup first if you might need anything later.
Steps
- Log in to your Hostvento client area at https://secure.hostvento.com/clientarea.php.
- Open Services, choose your hosting plan and log in to cPanel.
- Find Softaculous Apps Installer and open it.
- Click the All Installations icon. This shows every app installed on your account.
- Find the app you want to remove. Check the address in the row to be sure it is the right one.
- Click the red cross icon at the end of that row. It is often named Remove.
- A screen appears with a few tick boxes. They are usually these:
- Remove the folder, which deletes the files.
- Remove the database.
- Remove the database user.
- Click Remove Installation.
- Wait for the message that says the removal worked.
Check the result
- Visit the web address of the old app. You should see an error or an empty page.
- Open All Installations again. The app should no longer be listed.
If you only remove the record
If you leave the boxes unticked, Softaculous only forgets the install. Your files and database stay on the server. They still use disk space. Disk space is the room your account has to store files. You can delete the leftovers later in File Manager and MySQL Databases in cPanel.
Tip: Do not remove an app on a live site unless you have a copy of it. You cannot undo a removal.
Quick recap
- Open Softaculous and go to All Installations.
- Click the red cross next to the app.
- Choose what to delete and click Remove Installation.
- Back up first because removal cannot be undone.
- Ask Hostvento support if you are unsure which boxes to tick.
