How to Remove an App Installed with Softaculous

What is Softaculous?

Softaculous is a tool inside cPanel that installs apps with a few clicks. A "script" is just another word for an app, like WordPress or Joomla. cPanel is the dashboard where you manage your hosting.

Warning before you start

Removing an app can delete its files and its database. A database is where the app keeps its posts, users and settings. This cannot be undone. Take a backup first. If you might want the site again, save a copy.

Steps to remove the app

1. Log in to your client area at https://secure.hostvento.com/clientarea.php.
2. Open your hosting service and log in to cPanel.
3. Find Softaculous Apps Installer. Click it to open Softaculous.
4. Click the All Installations icon. It looks like a list, near the top right of the page.
5. Find the app you want to remove.
6. Click the red X (remove) icon on the right of that row.
7. A box appears with choices. These may include Remove Directory, Remove Database and Remove Database User. Tick the ones you want.
8. Read the box with care. Then click Remove Installation.
9. Wait for the green message that says the removal worked.

What if the files are still there?

Sometimes the folder or database stays. If you are sure you do not need them:

1. Open File Manager in cPanel and delete the leftover folder.
2. Open MySQL Databases in cPanel and delete the old database and user.

Be careful here. Delete only things that belong to the app you removed.

What if I only want to hide the record?

Softaculous keeps a list of installs. If you deleted the files by hand, the record may still show. Use the remove icon with the folder and database boxes left unticked. This clears the record only.

Quick recap

• Back up first, because removal can delete everything.
• Open Softaculous, then All Installations.
• Click the red X and choose what to remove.
• Click Remove Installation and wait for the success message.
