What does Softaculous do?

Softaculous installs ready-made apps on your website. Think of it like an app store for your hosting. You choose an app, fill in a short form and click a button. Softaculous does the hard work for you.

Without it, you would need to upload files, make a database and edit settings by hand. A database is a place where an app stores its information, like a filing cabinet. Softaculous does all of that in a few minutes.

Softaculous is made by another company. Hosting providers add it to their servers. Ask Hostvento support whether it is on your plan.

Where do I find it?

It usually lives inside cPanel. cPanel is the dashboard where you manage your hosting. Look for Softaculous Apps Installer, or search for "Softaculous" at the top of cPanel.

What can you do with it?

• Install apps in one click.
• Update apps when new versions come out.
• Back up and restore the apps you installed.
• Clone a site, which means making a copy of it.
• Move a site to a different folder or domain.
• Remove an app you no longer want.

Steps to install an app

1. Log in to your client area at https://secure.hostvento.com/clientarea.php.
2. Open your hosting service and log in to cPanel.
3. Click Softaculous Apps Installer.
4. Choose an app, for example WordPress, from the list.
5. Click Install Now.
6. Pick your domain under Choose Domain.
7. Leave In Directory empty if you want the app on your main address.
8. Enter an admin username, a strong password and an email address. Write these down.
9. Click Install.
10. When you see the success message, open the links it shows. One is your site, the other is the admin login.

Is it safe?

Yes, if you keep your apps updated. Old versions can have security holes. Softaculous shows you when updates are ready.
