How does Softaculous get new versions?
Softaculous is an app installer inside cPanel. cPanel is the dashboard where you manage your hosting. Apps like WordPress are made by other teams. When a team releases a new version, the Softaculous team has to add it to their list.
Why is there a delay?
New versions do not show up at the same moment they are released. There are a few reasons.
- The Softaculous team tests the new version first. They want to make sure it installs and updates without problems.
- They may need to change their install steps to match the new version.
- Your server must also receive the new list from Softaculous. This can take some time.
- Big or complex apps can take longer than small ones.
Security fixes are often added quickly. Other updates may take a bit longer. There is no fixed date. The exact timing is not something Hostvento can promise.
How to see which version is available
- Log in to your client area at https://secure.hostvento.com/clientarea.php.
- Open your hosting service and log in to cPanel.
- Open Softaculous Apps Installer.
- Click the app name, such as WordPress.
- Look at the version number shown on the app's page.
How to update an app you already installed
- In Softaculous, click All Installations.
- Find your app. If an update is ready, you will see an upgrade arrow or a version note.
- Tick the option to Create backup first.
- Click the update icon and confirm.
Always take a backup before updating, because an update can sometimes break themes or plugins.
Can I update without waiting?
Many apps have their own update button. In WordPress, for example, go to the dashboard and choose Dashboard then Updates. This works even if Softaculous has not added the version yet.
