What to Do When You Cannot Open Your Website or cPanel

If neither your site nor cPanel opens, follow these checks in order. Most problems have a simple cause.

Website Management2 min read15 steps

Some words first

cPanel is the control panel for your hosting. It is the page where you manage files, email and databases. A firewall is a guard that blocks bad traffic. An IP address is the number that identifies your device on the internet.

Step 1: Is it only you?

  1. Open the site on your phone using mobile data, not Wi-Fi.
  2. If it works there, the problem is your own network or computer.
  3. Try a free "is it down" website checker to see if others can open it.

Step 2: Fix problems on your side

  1. Restart your router and computer.
  2. Clear your browser cache. A cache is a saved copy of a page that may be old.
  3. Try another browser or a private window.
  4. Turn off any VPN or proxy for a minute and try again.
  5. Turn off browser add-ons that block content.

Step 3: Check your domain and bills

  1. Log in to the client area.
  2. Open Services and check that your hosting is Active. A service can pause if an invoice is not paid.
  3. Open Domains and check that your domain has not expired.
  4. Look in Billing for unpaid invoices.

Step 4: Blocked by a firewall?

If you typed the wrong password too many times, the server may block your IP address for a while. Then neither the site nor cPanel opens, but only for you. Phone data works, but home Wi-Fi does not. That is a strong sign.

  1. Find your IP address by searching "what is my IP" in a search engine.
  2. Open a support ticket at https://secure.hostvento.com/submitticket.php.
  3. Send your IP address and ask support to check for a block.

Step 5: Site errors

If cPanel opens but the site does not, the cause may be a broken .htaccess file or a bad plugin. Rename .htaccess in File Manager and reload. Rename the plugins folder in wp-content if you use WordPress. Take a backup first.

Step 6: Contact support

If nothing works, send a ticket. Include your domain, the error message, the time it began and what you tried. Do not send your password.

Tip: Take a screenshot of the error. It helps support find the cause faster.

Quick recap

  • Test on mobile data to see if it is only you.
  • Clear the cache and turn off VPNs.
  • Check service, domain and invoices in the client area.
  • A blocked IP needs support to unblock it.
  • Open a ticket with the details.
