What is auto-save?
When you write a post, WordPress saves your work by itself. This is called auto-save. It helps if your browser closes or your internet drops. By default, WordPress saves about every 60 seconds.
You can change that time. You do this by adding one line to a file called wp-config.php. This file holds the main settings of your site. It lives in the main folder of your WordPress install.
Warning: a mistake in this file can make your site show an error. Make a copy of the file first. Save the copy on your computer.
Steps
- Log in to your client area at https://secure.hostvento.com/clientarea.php and open cPanel. cPanel is the control panel for your hosting.
- Click File Manager.
- Open the folder where WordPress is installed. For the main site, this is often
public_html. - Right-click
wp-config.phpand choose Download to keep a backup. - Right-click it again and choose Edit.
- Find the line that says
/* That's all, stop editing! */. - Add this line just above it:
define( 'AUTOSAVE_INTERVAL', 120 ); - Click Save Changes.
This line sets the time to 120 seconds, which is two minutes. The number is in seconds. Use 30 for faster saves or 300 for slower ones.
Check it
- Open a new post in WordPress.
- Type some text and wait.
- Watch for the "Saved" message near the top of the editor.
If you cannot edit the file, or the site shows an error after your change, restore your backup copy. You can also open a ticket with Hostvento support at https://secure.hostvento.com/submitticket.php.
