What is WordPress?
WordPress is free software for building websites. You do not need to write code. You pick a design, add your words and pictures, and publish. Hosting is the space on a computer, called a server, where your website files live so people can visit them any time.
Before you start
- You need a hosting plan with Hostvento.
- You need a domain name. This is your web address, like
example.com. - Find your login details in your welcome email.
Step 1: Install WordPress
- Log in to your client area at https://secure.hostvento.com/clientarea.php.
- Open your hosting service and sign in to cPanel. cPanel is the control panel for your hosting.
- Look for an installer tool, such as Softaculous Apps Installer or WordPress Manager. Ask Hostvento support if you cannot find one on your plan.
- Click WordPress and then Install.
- Choose your domain. Leave the folder box empty to install on the main address.
- Type a site name, an admin username and a strong password. Write them down.
- Click Install and wait for the success message.
Step 2: Log in
- Go to your site address followed by
/wp-admin. - Type your admin username and password.
- You are now in the dashboard, the admin area of your site.
Step 3: Pick a theme
A theme is the design of your site.
- Go to Appearance and then Themes.
- Click Add New.
- Preview a few designs.
- Click Install and then Activate on the one you like.
Step 4: Add pages
- Go to Pages and click Add New.
- Type a title, such as "About Us".
- Write your text in the editor. Click the plus sign to add pictures or buttons.
- Click Publish.
- Repeat for Home and Contact pages.
Step 5: Make a menu
- Go to Appearance and then Menus.
- Name your menu and click Create Menu.
- Tick your pages and click Add to Menu.
- Tick a display location and click Save Menu.
Block themes use Appearance and Editor for menus.
Step 6: Add plugins if needed
A plugin adds a feature, like a contact form. Go to Plugins and Add New. Install only what you need.
Tip: Visit your site in a private browser window to see what visitors see. Keep WordPress, themes and plugins updated.
