What are email notifications?
WooCommerce is a plugin that turns WordPress into an online shop. A plugin is an add-on that gives a site new powers. When something happens in the shop, WooCommerce sends an email. For example, you may get an email for a new order. Your customer may get one when the order is complete.
There are two kinds. Admin emails go to you. Customer emails go to your shoppers.
Open the email settings
- Log in to your WordPress dashboard.
- Click WooCommerce, then Settings.
- Click the Emails tab.
You will see a list of emails, such as New order, Processing order, Completed order and Refunded order.
Turn an email on or off, and edit it
- On the Emails tab, find the email you want.
- Click Manage next to it, or click its name.
- Tick or untick Enable this email notification.
- For admin emails, type the recipient address. You can add more than one, separated by commas.
- Change the Subject and Email heading if you like.
- Add extra text in Additional content if you want a short thank-you note.
- Choose the Email type. HTML looks nicer. Plain text is simple.
- Click Save changes.
Set the sender details
- On the main Emails tab, scroll to Email sender options.
- Type the From name, usually your shop name.
- Type the From address. Use an address on your own domain.
- Click Save changes.
Change the look
On the same tab, under Email template, you can add a header image, a footer text, and change the colors. Click Save changes, then use the preview link to see the result.
Send a test
- Place a test order in your own shop.
- Check that the emails arrive. Also check the spam folder.
If emails do not arrive
- Check that the From address belongs to your own domain.
- Use an SMTP plugin. SMTP is the standard way to send mail through a real mailbox. It helps emails avoid spam folders.
- Ask Hostvento support for your mail details through a ticket at https://secure.hostvento.com/submitticket.php.
Tip: Only turn off emails you really do not need. Customers like order confirmations.
Quick recap
- Go to WooCommerce, then Settings, then Emails.
