What are these words?
MXroute is an outside email service. When you point your MX records to it, your email is handled there. MX records are lines in DNS that tell the world which server gets your mail. DNS is like a phone book for the internet.
A TXT record is a line of plain text in DNS. Email systems read some of these to decide if your mail is real.
- SPF lists the servers that may send mail for your domain.
- DKIM adds a digital signature to each mail, like a wax seal.
- DMARC says what to do if a mail fails the checks.
Without these, your mail may land in spam. Hostvento does not own MXroute. Ask Hostvento support if your plan works with it. For the exact values, use your MXroute panel.
Before you start
- Log in to your MXroute panel and find the SPF and DKIM values for your domain.
- Check that your MX records already point to MXroute.
- Remember that a domain should have only one SPF record.
Steps in cPanel
- Log in to cPanel and open Zone Editor.
- Click Manage next to your domain.
- Look for an existing TXT record that starts with
v=spf1. If there is one, edit it. If not, add a new one. - Click Add Record and set Type to TXT.
- In Name, type your domain, like
example.com. - In Record, paste the SPF text from MXroute. It looks like
v=spf1 include:... ~all. - Click Add Record.
Add the DKIM record
- Click Add Record again and choose TXT.
- In Name, type the DKIM name given by MXroute. It often looks like
x._domainkey.example.com. - In Record, paste the long key. Paste it as one line with no breaks.
- Click Add Record.
Optional: DMARC
Add a TXT record named _dmarc with a value such as v=DMARC1; p=none. This only watches and does not block mail.
Check them
Wait a few hours. Then send a test email to an outside account and check it does not go to spam.
Quick recap
- TXT records prove your mail is real.
- Get the SPF and DKIM values from MXroute.
- Add them in Zone Editor, with only one SPF record.
- Test with a real email after DNS spreads.
