What does "point a domain" mean?
A domain is your website's address. DNS is like a phone book for the internet. It turns that address into a number that computers understand. Pointing a domain means telling the phone book to send visitors to your Elementor site.
Elementor is a page builder for WordPress. It also offers its own hosting. If your site lives on Elementor Hosting, you must tell your domain where to find it.
Before you start
- Log in to your Elementor account and open your website.
- Check where your domain's DNS is edited. If it uses Hostvento nameservers, log in at https://secure.hostvento.com/clientarea.php.
- Save your current DNS records. A mistake can break your site or email.
Steps
- In your Elementor account, open the website you want to connect.
- Find the Domain or Connect domain option.
- Type your domain name and continue.
- Elementor shows the DNS records you need. Copy them exactly. Do not use values from old guides, since they can change.
- Open the DNS zone editor for your domain.
- Delete the old A record for the root name (the host
@) that points to a different server. - Add the A record shown by Elementor. An A record points a name to a number address.
- Add or edit the
wwwrecord. It is usually a CNAME. A CNAME record points one name to another name. - Save your changes.
- Return to Elementor and click Verify or Connect.
Using nameservers
Some setups ask you to change nameservers instead. Nameservers are the computers that hold your DNS zone. If Elementor gives you nameservers, set them where the domain is registered. Then manage records in the place Elementor tells you.
Wait and test
It can take a few minutes, or a day or more, for changes to spread. This is called propagation. A security certificate for the https lock may also take a short while.
If you need help with the DNS side, open a ticket at https://secure.hostvento.com/submitticket.php.
Quick recap
- Start the domain connection inside Elementor.
- Copy the records it shows you.
- Replace the old A record and set the www record.
- Do not change MX records.
- Wait for propagation, then verify.
