What does "point a domain" mean?
A domain is your website's address. DNS is like a phone book for the internet. It turns that address into a number that computers understand. Pointing a domain means telling the phone book to send visitors to your store.
Tiendanube (also known as Nuvemshop) is an online shop builder. Your store starts with an address on its own site. You can use your own domain instead.
Before you start
- Log in to your Tiendanube admin.
- Know where your DNS is edited. If your nameservers are Hostvento's, log in at https://secure.hostvento.com/clientarea.php.
- Save your current DNS records. A wrong change can break your site or email.
Steps
- In Tiendanube admin, look for Settings and then Domains. The label can differ in your language.
- Choose the option to connect a domain you already own.
- Type your domain name.
- Tiendanube shows the DNS records you must add. Leave this page open. Copy the values exactly. They are not the same for every store.
- Open the DNS zone editor for your domain.
- Remove old A or CNAME records for the same names. These may lead to your old website.
- Add the records shown by Tiendanube. An A record points a name to a number address. A CNAME record points one name to another name.
- Save your changes.
- Go back to Tiendanube and click the button to check or finish the connection.
If you want to keep the old site
A domain can lead to only one place at a time. To keep your old site, use a subdomain for the store. A subdomain is a prefix, like shop.example.com. Connect the subdomain in Tiendanube and add the record for that name only.
Waiting time
DNS changes spread slowly. This is called propagation. It may take minutes, or up to a day or more. The https lock may also appear after a delay.
