Why change it?
Plesk is a control panel. It is the place where you manage your website, email and files. If someone steals your password, they can change or delete all of that. Change your password if you shared it, if it is old, or if it is easy to guess.
Make a strong password
- Use at least 12 characters.
- Mix big letters, small letters, numbers and symbols.
- Do not use your name, birthday or the word "password".
- Do not reuse a password from another site.
A good trick is to join four random words and add numbers and symbols. A password manager app can also make and store passwords for you.
Steps when you can log in
- Log in to Plesk.
- Click your username or the profile icon. It is near the top right, or at the bottom of the left menu in some versions.
- Click Edit Profile, or open My Profile.
- Find the password fields.
- Type your old password in Old password, if the form asks for it.
- Type the new password in New password.
- Type it again in Confirm password.
- Click OK or Save.
The next time you log in, use the new password.
Steps when you forgot your password
- Open the Plesk login page.
- Click Forgot your password?
- Type your username or email address.
- Click Send.
- Open the email from Plesk and follow its link.
- Type your new password twice and save it.
If no email comes, check your spam folder. If it still does not arrive, open a support ticket. You may also see your hosting login details in your client area.
Tip: Your Plesk password is not the same as your email password or your client area password. Each one is changed in its own place.
Quick recap
- Open your profile in Plesk and choose Edit Profile.
- Type the new password twice and save.
- Use a long password that you do not use anywhere else.
- Use Forgot your password? if you are locked out.
