What is File Manager?
File Manager is a tool in Plesk that lets you see and manage the files of your website. It works in your browser. It looks a lot like the folder view on your own computer.
Open it
- Log in to Plesk.
- Click Websites & Domains.
- Find your domain and click File Manager.
Your website files live in the folder httpdocs. Open it by clicking its name.
Common jobs
Create a new folder or file
- Click the blue + button.
- Choose Create Directory or Create File.
- Type a name and click OK.
Edit a file
- Click the three dots beside the file, or right-click it.
- Choose Edit in Code Editor.
- Make your change, then click OK or Save.
Rename, move or copy
- Tick the box next to the file.
- Use the buttons at the top: Rename, Move or Copy.
- Pick the new name or folder and confirm.
Delete
- Tick the file or folder.
- Click Remove and confirm.
Warning: Deleted files may not come back. Take a backup first, especially before deleting folders.
Change permissions
Permissions decide who can read, change or run a file. Click the three dots, choose Change Permissions, and tick the boxes you need. Most files work with 644. Most folders work with 755.
Zip and unzip
Use Add to Archive to pack files into a zip. Use Extract Files to unpack one.
